Who We Are
John W. Goodwin
John founded Goodwin Schroeder Securities, Inc.in 1990 after 11 years with EF Hutton and Thomson McKinnon Securities. He works with each client to develop an investment portfolio that matches their goals primarily using mutual funds and individual stocks. His long experience with the investment markets and with many clients allow him to bring unique perspective to each client and their needs to develop an investment strategy and portfolio.
He has participated in the governance of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority—FINRA-- by serving on the District 3 Committee (2003-05, as Chairman in 2004) and as a member of the Small Firms Advisory Board (2005-07).
He has served on the Pension Board for the United Methodist Church ($23 billion of assets), the Texas Methodist Foundation, the SMU Alumni Board, and Governor Gary Johnson’s Business Advisory Board.
He has two degrees in Economics: a BA from SMU and an MA from University of Washington. John has been married since 1979 to Donna and has two married daughters: Emily and Sada.
Sarah E. Thomas
Sarah is the Executive Assistant for Goodwin Schroeder Securities, Inc., and has been with the firm since May of 2000. She started in the insurance industry in 1983 and from 1995 to 2000 she worked in the financial planning and pension industry. She has over 30 years’ experience as an office manager/personal assistant She graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1998 with a degree in Business Management/Administration.
Sarah is married to Mark and they have two children: Courtney is a graduate of UNM and teaches special education for elementary students and Josh in the USAF.
Scott D. Schroeder
Scott has been with the firm since early 2010. Originally he worked 17 years in the financial industry, starting on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in 1994. His experience gained him positions in risk management with Stafford Trading LLC, TD Securities and Ronin Capital LLC.
He serves as Vice President at the firm and counsels individual clients about their investment needs using personalized portfolio allocations to achieve their goals.
Scott is married to Marnie and they have three children, Grace, Sloane and Jason. When he is not at soccer practice or karate for the kids, he loves to play golf or fly fish.
